2013 Dunaway Chili Cookoff

DATE: March 7, 2013
LOCATION: Dunaway Headquarters, 550 Bailey Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas
DETAILS: Dunaway held a company wide Chiil Cookoff on March 7th that benefited the Tarrant Area Food Bank.  $5 dollars or 5 canned goods were accepted as entry fees.  Voting was held as to which department was considered the Chili Masters.  An individual winner was also announced as the King of Chili.  Dunaway collected $390 dollars and 109 cans of food.  All was donated to the Tarrant Area Food Bank.

ACE: Architecture, Construction & Engineering Mentorship

DATE: February 7, 2013
LOCATION: Dunaway Headquarters, 550 Bailey Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas
DETAILS: Dunaway’s Spencer McIntosh, Kervin Campbell, Eric Hinklin, and James Yu hosted a high school class educating students on construction-related professions. The ACE Mentor Program is a national organization with a two-fold mission: To enlighten and motivate students toward architecture, construction, engineering and related careers, and to provide mentoring and scholarship opportunities for future designers and constructors The students enjoyed pizza and listened to information from speakers from survey, municipal engineering, and private sector engineering on the various steps required in accomplishing a typical site development assignment. Students separated into three groups and carried out various experiments to demonstrate principals of physics. As the mentorship program continues throughout the year, the students will ultimately carry out their site development demonstration project.

2013 Stock Show and Rodeo Client Event

DETAILS: Dunaway and AUI Contractors hosted a client event Wednesday, February 6. Nearly 100 employees and clients gathered at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History for a BBQ dinner then trekked over to Will Rogers to watch Fort Worth's finest rodeo.

American Heart Association’s February 1st National Wear Red Day

DETAILS: Dunaway employees wear red in support of American Heart Association’s February 1st National Wear Red Day to raise awareness of heart disease in women. According to the Association, heart disease kills more women than all cancers combined. Since the National Wear Red Day began 10 years ago, 21% fewer women have died from heart disease due to increased awareness and influence on legislation to help end gender disparities in treatment of heart disease. http://goredforwomen.org/

Dunaway Building Holiday Bear Drive

DATE: November 26 - December 19, 2012
LOCATION: Dunaway Headquarters, 550 Bailey Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas
DETAILS: In support of Cook Children’s Medical Center, Dunaway Associates sponsored a building-wide drive to collect stuffed toy bears.  Cook Children’s pastoral care program strives to give every patient a stuffed bear during their stay at the hospital.  Companies in the Bailey building together donated a "new record" of 466 bears.  Bears were displayed on a 15-foot-tall Christmas tree and a 13-foot tall ladder, all part of the “Bear Corral.”  The drive ends with a “blessing of the bears” ceremony.  Participants from Cook Children’s included Dr. Ann Miller, Director of Pastoral Care, Terry Shaw, Pastoral Care Coordinator,  Stan Davis, VP of Facilities, George Montague, VP Real Estate, Grant Harris, VP Cook Health Foundation, and Kyndall Burroughs, Communication Manager.

Dunaway Annual Holiday Party

DETAILS:

Dunaway celebrated its annual holiday party at the beautiful BRIT in Fort Worth. David Hira, master illusionist, provided entertainment while telling the Dunaway story, illustrating the narrative with stunning illusions and magic.  Dunaway also included a project awards ceremony and a people's choice awards ceremony that showcased Dunaway's top projects and its outstanding employees.

EVENT:

Society of Design Adminstrators/AIA Canstruction

LOCATION:  Northeast Mall, Hurst, Texas
DETAILS: Dunaway again participated in the Society of Design Administrators/AIA CANSTRUCTION competition.  Team Dunaway successfully built a flatbed pickup truck (hauling crates of food) at North East Mall. The structure is made up of approximately 4,800 cans and took nearly 7 hours to build. Dunaway won the award of “Best Meal” this year! A BIG thank you to everyone that made it out to lend a hand!  At the conclusion of the week-long CANSTRUCTION celebration, the cans are donated to the Tarrant County Food Bank.

Dunaway Participates in BIMForum

LOCATION:  Tacoma, Washington
DETAILS: Dunaway participated in the Fall 2012 BIMForum meeting held October 10-11 in Tacoma, Washington. The session focused on the use of BIM for facilities management, and how the use of BIM can extend beyond building construction to building management.  Dunaway is one a a few firms that utilizes BIM to integrate the vertical structure with the horizontal infrastructure.  BIM allows clash detection at an early stage when conflicts can be corrected before they become more costly and complex.  Jason Williamson, P.E., LEED AP and Chris Wilde, P.E., LEED AP lead Dunaway’s involvement with BIM and attended the conference.

CREW Fort Worth Lunch & Learn

Dunaway presented the topic “Issues & Challenges Related to Commercial Site Development” as part of the CREW Fort Worth “Lunch & Learn” series.  Attendees represented the land development, real estate, legal and financial industries Photo (above, left to right) features Dunaway presentors Kylon Wilson, P.E., Tom Huffhines, P.E., Chris Wilde, P.E., Tom Galbreath, RLA, Susie Peden (CREW member) and Barry Hudson, AICP.  The interactive session reviewed the most common scenarios of “what can go wrong” on a commercial site development assignment and discussed how to anticipate and solve these challenges. A copy of Dunaway’s recent publication “SITE DEVELOPMENT PRIMER” was given to each attendee.

EVENT:

2012 ICSC RECON Trade Show in Las Vegas

keyDunaway’s booth at the May 21-23 ICSC RECON Exhibition in Las Vegas attracted retailers and developers, many taking a chance at our new “treasure chest” game.  Participants drew a key from the fishbowl and tried their luck at opening the chest containing $100 in cash for use on the Las Vegas game tables.  One key out of 20 was a winner.  The cash was replenished regularly as lucky players walked away with the prize! Dunaway’s Tom Galbreath ASLA and Chris Wilde, P.E., LEED AP represented the firm. Talk this year centered on the resurgence of retail growth, with particular emphasis on mixed use, with urban residential supported by street-level retail.  ICSC RECON is the commercial real estate industry’s premier event, hosted by the International Council of Shopping Center, and known as Real Estate Convention.

Dunaway Crawfish Boil 2012

The Dunaway Annual Crawfish Boil took place May 10, 2012 and was attended by approximately 400.  Participants enjoyed an opportunity to visit with Mayor Betsy Price stopped by and joined others for some hot crawfish and shrimp, great Cajun music, and visits with friends.  Held outdoors on the grounds of the 500 Bailey Building, the event was graced with sunny yet mild Texas weather. Looking forward to a repeat performance next year!

The Fort Worth South, Inc. 11th Annual Banquet

DETAILS: The Fort Worth South, Inc. 11th Annual Banquet was held at the TCU Brown Lupton Student Center on February 21.  Fort Worth South, Inc. (FWSI) is a non-profit organization working to sustain the momentum of the Near Southside’s revitalization. FWSI began as a small coalition of Near Southside businesses and community leaders that has grown dramatically over the last decade. The mission of Fort Worth South is to “stimulate the redevelopment of Fort Worth's Near Southside as a vibrant, urban, mixed-use neighborhood.” Attendees from Dunaway included  Tom Huffhines, Richard Shaheen, Natalie Funk, Jason Williamson, Barry Hudson, Jennifer Zavala, Chris Wilde, Tom Galbreath, and Misty Brunette.

Meals on Wheels, Inc. of Tarrant County 2012 Cowboys & Cajuns Mardi Gras

LOCATION: River Ranch, 500 NE 23rd Street, Fort Worth, Texas
DETAILS: Dunaway hosted a table at the Meals on Wheels 2012 Cowboys & Cajuns Mardi Gras fund raiser on February 17th held at the River Ranch in stockyards area of Fort Worth.  The mission of Meals on Wheels is to keep homebound elderly and disabled members of the Tarrant County community living with independence and dignity for as long as possible by delivering meals on a daily basis to their homes.  The organization has served more than 15,377,997 meals in Tarrant County over the past 38 years.   Attending the event from Dunaway were Misty Brunette, Ryan Smock, Tom Galbreath & wife Jacque, Chris Wilde & wife Jessica, Jason Williamson & wife Stephanie.
