The two-lane East 1st Street roadway with a narrow bridge over the West Fork Trinity River was deemed insufficient for the 2035 projected daily volume of 7,200 vehicles. The Dunaway Team provided civil and environmental engineering, and traffic services while working alongside the City of Fort Worth and TxDOT to design 8,100 linear feet of roadway from Oakland Boulevard to Beach Street as a four-lane reinforced concrete minor arterial.

The Beach Street intersection widens to five lanes to accommodate a left turn, including traffic signal modifications. The new and old roadway alignments are parallel, leaving the current roadway and historically significant bridge incorporated into the City’s trail system. With a third of the project located within the Trinity River floodplain, extensive environmental coordination with governmental agencies was mandatory.
